Everything starts with your balance. This page explains how money moves in and out of a CaptainsBet account in Ireland, which methods you can use, and the rules that apply since the Gambling Regulation Act came into force.

Payment methods

Deposits are made in euro from an account in your own name.

Method Deposits Withdrawals Good to know
Debit card (Visa, Mastercard) Yes Yes The card must be in the account holder’s name.
Bank transfer Yes Yes Timing depends on your bank; instant payments usually land the same day.
E-wallet Yes Yes Only where the wallet is funded from a debit card or a bank account.
Credit card No No Not permitted for gambling in Ireland since 5 February 2026.

Why credit cards are not accepted

The Gambling Regulation Act 2024 stops operators taking payment by credit card or any credit facility. The ban also covers indirect routes, so an e-wallet topped up from a credit card cannot be used either. It applies to every licensed operator here, not just to this site.

Verification comes first

Since 1 July 2026 a remote operator licensed in Ireland must confirm your identity and your age before you can register, rather than at your first withdrawal. Have a photo ID to hand when you sign up, and expect to confirm your address or payment details if something does not match.

How to make a deposit

  1. Log in and open the cashier.
  2. Pick your debit card, bank transfer or wallet and enter the amount in euro.
  3. Confirm the payment in your banking app.
  4. Set or review your deposit limit while you are there.

Withdrawals

Withdrawals are requested in the same cashier and are returned to the method you deposited with wherever possible. How quickly the money lands depends on your bank as much as on the operator.

Why a withdrawal can be held

  • the name on the payment account does not match the account holder;
  • verification documents have been requested but not sent;
  • an active bonus has not been wagered yet;
  • the account duplicates another one.

Payment rules

  • Your own name only. Money from a partner, a parent or a friend is returned to the sender.
  • No cash and no credit. Payments run through electronic methods funded by your own money.
  • One account per person. Bets and bonuses from duplicate accounts are voided.
  • Not a bank account. Your balance earns no interest and is not covered by a deposit guarantee scheme.

Only deposit what you can afford to lose. Set a deposit limit before you start, and if gambling stops being entertainment, ring the National Gambling Helpline on 1800 936 725 — free and confidential, 9am to 11pm daily.

Payments FAQ

Credit cards, and e-wallets funded from a credit card, have not been allowed for gambling in Ireland since 5 February 2026. Use a debit card or a bank transfer instead.
